Now, apply online for tap connection

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is all set to accept applications for new water connections `online' from February 20.
Initially, the Water Board will accept applications for 15 mm new water connections. The applicants can either visit the Water Board officer at Khairatabad or offices of 14 operation and maintenance (O&M) divisions for applying online.
"Though the Water Board is working out feasibility of applicants downloading applications from the board's portal (www.hyderabadwater.gov.in), initially we will start the process of online registration from our own offices," HMWS&SB executive director K Ashok Reddy told TOI.

However, applicants have to pay processing fee for online applications. Once, the application process is completed, then a copy would be forwarded to the concerned O&M division in-charge to get a feasibility report, he said.

In the present system, it takes at least 30 days to sanction a new water connection. However in the new system, a new connection would be sanctioned within a week or 10 days. The applicant has to visit a nearby O&M division office to know the status of the application.
"We will continue accepting applications manually. Later, once the online system is streamlined, we will close the manual process," the ED replied.
"We asked in-charges of all O&M divisions to clear the nearly 2,000 pending applications," he added.
